A Component-Based Architecture for Parallel Multi-physics PDE Simulation
نویسنده
چکیده
We describe the Uintah Computational Framework (UCF), a set of software components and libraries that facilitate the simulation of partial differential equations on structured adaptive mesh refinement grids using hundreds to thousands of processors. The UCF uses a non-traditional approach to achieving parallelism, employing an abstract taskgraph representation to describe computation and communication. This representation has a number of advantages that affect the performance of the resulting simulation. We demonstrate performance of the system on a solid mechanics algorithm, two different computational fluid-dynamics (CFD) algorithms, as well as coupled CFD/mechanics algorithms. We show performance of the UCF using up to 2000 processors. © 2005 Published by Elsevier B.V.

A Multi-Physics Simulation Model Based on Finite Element Method for the Multi-Layer Switched Reluctance Motor
Using ANSYS finite element (FE) package, a multi-physics simulation model based on finite element method (FEM) is introduced for the multi-layer switched reluctance motor (SRM) in the present paper. The simulation model is created totally in ANSYS parametric design language (APDL) as a parametric model usable for various conventional types of this motor and it is included electromagnetic, therm...
متن کاملMultiAgent Techniques for Simulation of Complex Scienti cSystemsT
In this paper we present a paradigm for simulating complex systems. Such systems, typically found in Scientiic and Engineering domains (simulating an engine, designing an airplane wing), involve multiple physical phenomena with complicated geometry. The computational techniques we propose use cooperating agents. Our focus in this paper will be on phenomenon modeled by PDEs, although much of the...
متن کاملAgent Based Networks for Scientiic Simulation and Modeling
The simulation and modeling of complex physical systems often involves many components because (1) the physical system itself has components of diiering natures, (2) parallel computing strategies require many (somewhat independent) components, and (3) existing simulation software applies only to simpler geometrical shapes and physical situations. We discuss how agent based networks are applied ...
متن کاملData redistribution and remote method invocation for coupled components
With the increasing availability of high-performance massively parallel computer systems, the prevalence of sophisticated scientific simulation has grown rapidly. The complexity of the scientific models being simulated has also evolved, leading to a variety of coupled multi-physics simulation codes. Such cooperating parallel programs require fundamentally new interaction capabilities, to effici...
متن کاملParallelisation of MACOPA, A Multi-physics Asynchronous Solver
Macopa is a partial differential equations solver based on a particular local time stepping technique dedicated to multi-physics and multi-scale problems. Here, some parallelisation strategies – multithreading, domain decomposition, and hybrid OpenMP/MPI– are introduced for this solver. Their efficiency is evaluated on a few examples. 1 Context Numerical simulation has become a central tool for...
